According to new education policy students are free to opt any subject combination according to their choice of higher studies. 

The new 5 +3+3+4 school structure will compromise 12 years of school and 3 years of preschool.

 Foundational stage: 5 years

Age 3 yrs to 6 yrs (3 years) preprimary stage 

Age 6 yrs to 8 yrs (2 yrs) class 1 and 2

Preparatory stage - 3 yrs.

Age 8yrs to 11 yrs (class 3 to class 5) 

Middle stage - 3 yrs 

Age 11 yrs to 14 yrs (class 6 to class 8)

Secondary stage - 4 yrs. 

Age 14 yrs to 18 yrs (class 9 to class 11)

 

 Educational Reform in NEP

 Ø  The New Education Policy-2020, aims to overhaul the school education and higher education after a gap of 34 years. The policy is on lines of the education approach followed by developed Western countries.

Ø  Under the new policy, education system will shift from current ‘10+2’ to ‘5+3+3+4’ structure to address the development needs of all age groups.

Ø  NEP 2020 focuses on building skill sets that are useful in employment with vocational learning and internships from grade 6th.

Ø  Promotes flexible choice of subjects based on aptitude and interest. Distinction between Arts, Science and Commerce Streams and Extra-Curricular has been blurred.

Ø  Promotes mother tongue as a medium of instruction as it is more effective in helping kids grasp basic concepts

Ø  Assessment of students on critical thinking, conceptual clarity and analytical thinking rather than rote learning.

Ø  Undergraduate programs will have multiple entry and exit options.
